The Federal Executive Council adopted the Revised 2025 National Migration Policy in August, marking a major step in Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen migration governance and create a more coordinated, responsive and people-centred system.

The policy seeks to address key migration issues while recognising the potential contribution of migration to national development, including skills, remittances, labour mobility, diaspora engagement and economic opportunities.

In this special report, Humanitarian Correspondent Ruth Aguele examines the key elements of the revised policy, its expected benefits and how better migration governance could support Nigeria’s broader development goals.
