2 OCTOBER 2026, ABUJA-NIGERIA
As preparations gather momentum for the holy pilgrimage, the Federal Government has successfully expanded Nigeria’s religious footprint following a major diplomatic breakthrough that secures an extra 10,000 Hajj slots for the 2027 exercise.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) announced the development, confirming that the total national allocation has increased from 50,000 to 60,000 pilgrims. Out of this new allocation, 7,500 slots are designated for State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards, agencies, and commissions, while 2,500 slots will be distributed among seven lead licensed Hajj tour operator companies.

“The additional allocation is a rare diplomatic gesture and a demonstration of the growing strategic relationship between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” — Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf, NAHCON Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Diplomatic Engagement Yields Results
The approval follows intense diplomatic engagement between Nigerian authorities and Saudi officials, reversing an initial rejection of the request. NAHCON noted that Saudi counterparts indicated willingness to consider further increases in future allocations, provided the newly approved slots are utilized efficiently and managed strictly in line with regulatory guidelines.
