Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the APC governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the governor and addressed to Rivers People, stating that he decided to withdraw from the primaries after deep reflection and extensive consultations with his family, friends, and associates.

Governor Fubara says he took the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC gubernatorial primaries not out of fear, and pledged commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of the party.

He also noted that leadership is ultimately about sacrifice, adding that there comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people, stressing that Rivers State is bigger than any individual, and at such a critical moment, the peace, stability, and unity of the state must take precedence over every personal interest.

The governor appreciated his supporters who stood firmly with him throughout the journey and those who gave their time, resources, prayers, and unwavering hope.

He further disclosed that his silence over this period was deliberate and strategic, guided always by the higher interest of the state, and
appreciated the All Progressives Congress, for the platform extended to him throughout the process.

He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support and encouragement.
