The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says many officials within the FCT Administration are unhappy with his leadership because his administration has closed loopholes that previously allowed the misuse of public funds.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike said his reforms have introduced stricter financial controls and greater accountability in the management of government resources, insisting that public funds must be used solely for projects and services that benefit residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the minister, resistance to the reforms is expected whenever long-standing practices are challenged. He maintained that his administration will not compromise on transparency or allow a return to what he described as “business as usual,” stressing that every expenditure must follow due process.
Wike also noted that strengthening accountability has enabled the FCT Administration to channel more resources into infrastructure development, road construction and other public projects that are now being completed across the capital city. He said the focus of his administration remains service delivery rather than seeking popularity.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to prudent financial management, stating that his responsibility is to protect public resources and ensure that every kobo entrusted to the FCT Administration is used in the interest of residents.
