Nigeria Destroys 2,809 Illegal Weapons in Major Security Operation

Nigeria has taken another significant step in the fight against the proliferation of illegal weapons, as the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, under the Office of the National Security Adviser, destroyed 2,809 illicit, decommissioned, and unserviceable weapons recovered by security and law enforcement agencies.

Security experts say the uncontrolled spread of small arms and light weapons remains one of Africa’s biggest threats to peace, stability, and sustainable development.

The destruction exercise reflects Nigeria’s commitment to preventing recovered weapons from re-entering circulation while strengthening national and regional security efforts.
