The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has welcomed sprint star Favour Ofili back into its fold, signaling a renewed relationship between the athlete and the federation. AFN President Tonobok Okowa expressed delight at her return, stressing the need for unity and collective support.

Okowa noted that creating the right environment for the 100m and 200m specialist is a priority, adding that Ofili requires “love, support, encouragement, and more love” from all stakeholders to reach her full potential.

Ofili’s return follows World Athletics’ decision to reject her application to switch allegiance to Türkiye, citing concerns over a broader recruitment drive that could undermine the integrity of international competitions and hinder the development of homegrown talent.

With the ruling, Ofili remains eligible to represent Nigeria, and the AFN is hopeful that renewed backing from officials, fans, and the athletics community will boost her performance and strengthen the country’s sprinting prospects on the global stage.
