Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face Comoros in the second round of the African qualifiers for the women’s football tournament of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced that both legs of the fixture will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, with the first leg scheduled for October 9 and the return leg on October 13, 2026.
Nigeria, one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, received a bye into the second round.
Comoros reached the second round after defeating Sudan 30–0 on aggregate in the opening round. Comoros won the first leg 17–0 before recording a 13–0 victory in the return fixture.
The Super Falcons must progress through four rounds of two-legged knockout fixtures to secure one of Africa’s two available places at the 2028 Olympic Games.
If Nigeria defeat Comoros, they will advance to the third round, scheduled to take place from February 23 to March 6, 2027. The winner of the tie between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Morocco will provide the opposition at that stage.
The fourth round is scheduled for October 4 to 12, 2027. Nigeria could face Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic or Mali if they reach that stage.
The final round of the qualifying competition will be played from November 23 to December 4, 2027. Potential opponents at that stage include Guinea, Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Algeria and Burkina Faso.
Nigeria qualified for the women’s football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, ending a 16-year absence from the competition. The Falcons are seeking consecutive Olympic appearances at the 2028 Games.
The Super Falcons recently played a two-match friendly series against Senegal at the Remo Stars Stadium, winning the first match 2–1 and the second 3–0.
