Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star and former world champion Tobi Amusan won a bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She achieved this feat despite battling a knee injury sustained from a bad fall in training camp.
Tobi Amusan finished third, clocking 12.60 seconds behind Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds, who took silver in 12.41 seconds, while Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas won gold with a time of 12.33 seconds. This result ended Amusan’s bid to become the first woman to win three consecutive Commonwealth titles in the event, after her gold medal victories at the 2018 and 2022 editions of the Games.
Amusan admitted that the injury had weighed heavily on her throughout the competition. “I had a pretty bad fall at the training camp, so I’ve been really iffy about my knee coming into this,” she said. “It was a little cold out there. I’m anemic, so I try to stay warm every opportunity I get. I did my best to make sure I kept myself warm before the race.”
I’ve just been thankful that God kept it together for me, so I was able to get it done once again,” she shared. “Honestly, with what I’m dealing with right now, I just want to go get treatment.”
Following her bronze-medal finish at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Tobi Amusan will now turn her focus to the remainder of the Wanda Diamond League season. She is set to compete in Brussels, Belgium, on September 4–5, 2026, where she aims to capture a historic fourth Diamond Trophy.
