Super Eagles goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has been named Udinese’s Player of the Season following an outstanding campaign with the Serie A club. The Nigerian goalkeeper earned the recognition for his consistent and impressive performances for the Zebras throughout the season.

Okoye missed the opening two months of the campaign after being suspended over an alleged match-fixing scandal. However, the shot-stopper bounced back strongly to reclaim the club’s number one position. He delivered a series of standout displays, particularly against Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan. Over the course of 29 league appearances, he kept an impressive 10 clean sheets – a testament to his consistency and mental resilience. Okoye has also earned a spot on the shortlist for the Serie A Player of the Month award for May, capping off a season that has firmly re-established him as one of the league’s most reliable goalkeepers.

Prior to his move to Italy, he played for Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam, where he was named the club’s Player of the Season during the 2020–2021 campaign, and he has also had stints with Fortuna Düsseldorf and Watford. He made his debut for the Nigerian team in 2019 and has since represented the country in major international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
