Nigeria and the Republic of Türkiye have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the solid minerals sector, marking a major step forward in economic collaboration between both nations.

The agreement was finalized on the sidelines of the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The partnership establishes a fresh framework for both countries to collaborate on critical mining infrastructure and resource mobilization.

Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, stated that Nigeria is fully prepared to leverage Türkiye’s advanced technical capabilities to modernize its mining operations.

“Nigeria is ready to leverage Türkiye’s technological advancement and expertise in mining exploration, training, digitisation, licensing systems, and capacity building to accelerate reforms and growth within the sector.”

Alake, who also serves as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group, noted that policy reforms introduced over the past three years have transformed the country’s operating environment, making it highly attractive to genuine global investors.

Reacting to the agreement, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, described the new partnership as both strategic and timely. He emphasized that current global energy security demands much stronger international cooperation and connectivity.

“Global energy security now demands stronger international cooperation and connectivity. We commend the Nigerian government for the reforms and initiatives already introduced in the solid minerals sector, and Turkish companies are eager to invest in Nigeria.”

The signing ceremony concluded with both delegations reaffirming their commitment to immediately activating joint technical working groups to fast-track investment inflows.
