Legendary singer Peabo Bryson, renowned for his breathtaking voice on Disney classics such as “A Whole New World” and “Beauty and the Beast,” has died at the age of 75. He passed away Tuesday evening surrounded by family and loved ones, his family said in a statement.

Bryson’s remarkable career spanned more than five decades, during which he captivated audiences with his soulful R&B and pop ballads, earning him the affectionate title “Voice of Love.” “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit,” the family’s statement said. “His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”

His iconic duets—“A Whole New World” with Regina Belle from Aladdin and “Beauty and the Beast” with Céline Dion—earned Grammy Awards and cemented his status as one of the most beloved vocalists of his generation.

Born Robert Peapo Bryson in Greenville, South Carolina, on April 13, 1951, he spent much of his childhood on his grandfather’s farm in Mauldin, South Carolina. Bryson’s love for music stemmed from his mother, who often took the family to concerts featuring prominent black artists of the time. He made his professional debut at age 14, singing backup for Al Freeman and the Upsetters.

Bryson’s final major concert was his “Golden Touch Tour” performance at The Theatre at Solaire in Manila, Philippines, on March 8, 2026. He also gave his last U.S. performance at Trilith Live in Fayetteville, Georgia, alongside Jeffrey Osborne in early May 2026. Bryson’s passing marks the end of an era, but his music—and the magic he brought to millions—will continue to resonate for generations to come.
