Veteran Nollywood star actress Sola Sobowale has expanded her work beyond the film industry with the launch of Joseph & Esther Homes, a residential care facility for older adults in Oyo State.
Nigerian actress Sola Sobowale has opened a residential care home for senior citizens in Ibadan, Oyo State, with Governor Seyi Makinde inaugurating the facility on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The home, known as Joseph & Esther Homes, is located in the Akobo area of Ibadan and is designed to provide older adults with a safe and supportive environment where they can maintain their independence while receiving professional care and assistance.
Joseph & Esther Homes operates under the tagline “Live Well, Age Well, Thrive Together” and describes itself as “A Place to Call Home.” The facility aims to provide residential accommodation, personalised support and professional care for elderly people, while maintaining their connection with family members.
According to the facility’s stated philosophy, “We do not replace family. We help families care better.” Its services are intended to support families who may find it difficult to provide round-the-clock care for ageing relatives because of work, distance or other responsibilities.
Beyond her longstanding career in Nollywood, Sola Sobowale has a personal and professional connection to elderly care. The actress previously disclosed that she worked as a caregiver in London after relocating from Nigeria in 2004.
During her time in the United Kingdom, she reportedly obtained National Vocational Qualification certificates at Levels 2, 3 and 4, eventually becoming a team leader. Her experience in the care sector provides background to her decision to establish a residential facility for older adults in Nigeria.

Sobowale is widely recognised for her performances in Nollywood films and television productions, including The Wedding Party, King of Boys and Super Story. Her portrayal of complex and memorable characters has made her one of Nollywood’s prominent veteran actresses.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Seyi Makinde commended Sola Sobowale for establishing the facility, describing the initiative as a meaningful contribution to the welfare of older people.
He also urged Nigerians with wealth, influence and resources to use them to improve society rather than oppress others.
The governor also announced that the access road leading to the home would be extended to its frontage and fitted with solar-powered streetlights to improve accessibility and comfort for residents.
With Joseph & Esther Homes, Sobowale is extending her professional journey into a sector focused on elderly care, dignity and family support, as the facility begins receiving interest from families seeking residential care options for their loved ones.
The establishment of Joseph & Esther Homes underscores the importance of giving back to society and using personal achievements to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Beyond her contributions to the entertainment industry, the actress’s venture serves as a reminder that lasting impact can also be measured by the lives touched and the communities supported.
