The Federal Government of Nigeria has fixed June 17, 2026, as the official date for the launch of the Digital Switch Over (DSO), marking the country’s migration from analog to digital broadcasting signals. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during an inspection visit to NigComSat in Abuja.

According to the Minister, the transition to digital broadcasting is part of broader efforts to position Nigeria as a major player in the global digital economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Digital Switch Over initiative is expected to improve broadcast quality, expand access to digital services, create new opportunities in the media and technology sectors, and enhance the overall viewing experience for Nigerians. Officials say the move will also support innovation, attract investment into the digital communication sector, and strengthen Nigeria’s participation in the global digital landscape.

The inspection of NigComSat forms part of ongoing preparations and assessments ahead of the nationwide rollout of the digital broadcasting system.
