Two Nigerian politicians have drawn attention for sharing affectionate moments with their wives at public appearances within the same week, with videos of both incidents making rounds online.

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai was seen embracing and kissing his wife, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, October 26, 2026, shortly before proceedings in his ongoing trial over the alleged unlawful interception of telephone communications involving National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The moment drew attention as the court dismissed El-Rufai’s no-case submission and directed him to enter his defense. The case was adjourned until November 25.

In the same Honeymoon spirit, on Tuesday, October 27, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also shared an affectionate moment with his wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, at the opening ceremony of the 26th Annual National Women’s Conference organized by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO).

During his address at the event, Sanwo-Olu presented his wife with a bouquet of flowers in recognition of her contributions. The couple subsequently shared a kiss as Nigerian singer 2Baba’s song, African Queen, serenaded the atmosphere.

Although the incidents took place in different settings, the similarities have made them a talking point. The two incidents show how personal moments involving public figures can attract attention beyond the events at which they occur, particularly when videos circulate widely on social media.

Neither incident was an announced joint activity, and there is no indication that the two moments were connected beyond their timing. Their appearances have nevertheless placed both politicians in the news for a reason separate from their usual political activities, refreshing how Nigerians view them.
