The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections online, giving registered Nigerians another chance to check their details before the polls.
INEC announced the online publication on Monday, October 26, following concerns about the register’s availability on its website. In a statement, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, chairman of the commission’s Information and Voter Education Committee, said the online version would complement the physical display of the register at registration centres nationwide from October 9 to 15.
The register is available on INEC’s official portal at https://display.inecnigeria.org.
How to check your name
- Visit https://display.inecnigeria.org and sign in, following the instructions on the portal.
- Select your state, local government area, ward and polling unit, or use your polling unit code where available.
- Look for your name, photograph and other details, and confirm that they are correct.
The portal is for viewing only. It does not allow users to edit their details, register as new voters or replace a Permanent Voter Card.
What do you do if you find an error
Voters who find that their names are missing or their details are incorrect should contact their nearest INEC office for guidance on how to report the problem. Under Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2026, the preliminary voters’ register is made public to allow people to identify and report errors or questionable entries.
INEC says it is reviewing complaints from the verification exercise ahead of the final register. However, the commission needs to explain how voters who discover errors after the original inspection period can report them, especially as the register was only recently made available online.
Final register in December
INEC plans to publish the final voters’ register on December 15, 2026. This follows criticism that the commission uploaded the register online later than expected, despite displaying it physically in October.
Registered voters should check their details and contact INEC if they find any errors, since accurate records are key to being able to vote in 2027.
