President Bola Tinubu’s latest approval of 26 appointments to the boards and management of 10 federal agencies and commissions was officially anounced on Monday, 20th July. These agencies help keep Nigeria running, from electricity and housing to agriculture, public finance and literacy, as well as play vital roles in delivering services that affect millions of Nigerians every day.
While many citizens are familiar with the Presidency and federal ministries, fewer know the responsibilities of the agencies responsible for implementing government policies. Here is a look at the 10 agencies that received new appointments, the officials named to them, and why their work matters.
- Rural Electrification Agency (REA)
The Rural Electrification Agency is responsible for expanding access to electricity in rural and underserved communities through off-grid solutions, mini-grids and renewable energy projects. Its work supports homes, schools, hospitals and businesses that are not connected to the national grid.

- National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC)
The Commission advises the Federal Government on salary structures, wages and remuneration for public servants. Its recommendations influence government pay policies and labour-related decisions.

3. Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)
The Commission advises on the sharing of federally collected revenue among the Federal, State and Local Governments. It also monitors revenue generation and promotes fiscal equity across the federation.

4. National Population Commission (NPC)
The National Population Commission manages demographic data, civil registration and preparations for the national population and housing census. Its work provides data that guide planning, budgeting and policy formulation.

5. Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET)
NBET serves as the intermediary purchaser of electricity from power generation companies and supplies it to electricity distribution companies, helping to maintain stability in Nigeria’s electricity market.

6. Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC)
The Commission coordinates Nigeria’s peaceful use of nuclear science and technology in medicine, agriculture, industry, research and energy development.

7. National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM)
NCAM develops and promotes agricultural machinery and mechanised farming technologies aimed at increasing food production and improving efficiency in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

- Prof. Alamu Joseph Omoniyi – Director-Gener
8. Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC)
The Commission promotes transparency and accountability in public finance by monitoring compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act and encouraging prudent management of government resources.
New appointment:
- Barr. Bilikisu Bala – Commissioner (North-West Zone)
9. National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education (NMEC)
NMEC coordinates adult literacy, continuing education and non-formal education programmes designed to reduce illiteracy and improve access to learning opportunities nationwide.
New appointment:

10. Federal Housing Authority (FHA)
The Federal Housing Authority develops housing estates and implements government housing projects aimed at increasing access to affordable housing across the country.
