The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, has renewed calls for the establishment of dedicated cycling lanes across Nigeria as part of efforts to improve road safety and ease traffic congestion.

He made the appeal during the World Bicycle Day celebration themed “Boosting Urban Life with the Bicycle”, held at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja.

According to him, promoting bicycle transportation will not only reduce pressure on the nation’s busy highways but also significantly contribute to reducing road traffic crashes and improving overall safety on Nigerian roads.

He emphasized the need for urban planning that accommodates cyclists, noting that cycling can play a vital role in creating healthier, more sustainable, and more efficient cities.

The FRSC boss urged policymakers to integrate cycling infrastructure into national transportation development plans.
