U.S. Sends Military Equipment to Nigeria Under Defence Sales Agreement

A United States Air Force C-17 Globemaster III has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force in Lagos and Kainji, as part of an ongoing Foreign Military Sales agreement between the United States and Nigeria.

The delivery was confirmed by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), which said the equipment forms part of the two countries’ defence partnership and is intended to support Nigerian-led efforts to counter terrorism in the region.

AFRICOM described the delivery as “partnership in action,” highlighting continued security cooperation between the United States and Nigeria.

The latest delivery comes amid broader military cooperation between both countries, including training, intelligence sharing and other capacity-building activities aimed at strengthening the capabilities of Nigerian security forces.

AFRICOM also stressed that U.S. military support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria is provided at Nigeria’s invitation and is rooted in respect for Nigerian sovereignty.

The equipment delivery underscores the continuing defence relationship between Nigeria and the United States as both countries work together to address terrorism and other security challenges in the region.
