The Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy is throwing its weight behind “waste-to-wealth” initiatives, aligning creative innovation with sustainable development. In a bold move to merge environmental stewardship with economic growth, one of such efforts has become a major reference point—where solid waste and metal scraps are being converted into elegant, high-end building materials.

Speaking on the initiative, the Honorable Minister, Hannatu Musawa, emphasized that the future of Nigeria’s creative economy relies heavily on sustainability. By turning discarded industrial metal, plastic debris, and solid waste into structural and decorative architectural elements, local artisans and designers are proving that environmental hazards can be re-engineered into economic assets. This “eco-design” movement not only cleans up urban centers but also creates green jobs for youth within the creative and manufacturing sectors.

The Ministry aims to institutionalize this approach by partnering with architectural firms, environmental agencies, and local tech hubs. The goal is to scale up the production of these upcycled materials, making them a staple in modern Nigerian architecture and a blueprint for sustainable development across Africa.
