The first batch of Nigerians evacuated from South Africa following recent xenophobic attacks has arrived safely in the country.

A total of 250 returnees landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos aboard an evacuation flight operated by Air Peace.

The returnees were received by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, who assured them of the Federal Government’s commitment to their welfare, rehabilitation, and resettlement.

The evacuation exercise forms part of efforts by the Nigerian government to protect its citizens affected by xenophobic violence and ensure their safe return home.

Government officials say necessary support measures have been put in place to assist the returnees as they reintegrate into society, while reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the protection of its citizens abroad.
