A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted 38-year-old South African national Will Jessica Ann over the importation of 5.75 kilogrammes of heroin into Nigeria.

Ann was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on July 6, 2026, after 14 large blocks of heroin were discovered in two checked-in bags.

The agency said she was travelling with her three-year-old son at the time of the arrest. The court sentenced her to 15 years on one count and 25 years on another, bringing the total sentence imposed to 40 years.

However, the sentences are to run concurrently, meaning the effective term is 25 years in prison. The case also involved allegations of a transnational drug trafficking network operating along the Cambodia-South Africa axis.
